Description
Substrata is the 6th mainline stage in The True Backrooms: Renovated.
Substrata is a rocky-like underground level. The first area consists of craggy tunnels, with many pipes stretching across the walls and through the ceiling. Small, orange lights dot the roof of the tunnels.
Arriving at the second area, an elevator and overhead catwalks can be seen, with open doors to hallways to the left and right. Shutter doors will guide the player to the right path through the hallways, in which two rooms with two batteries and a few other decorations can be found. The third battery, required to power the exit elevator is frighteningly across the room behind Buzzer. Upon placing all three batters in the slots, Buzzer will chase the player until it reaches the reaches the elevator power slot, where it will use its electrical powers to activate the elevator.
Going deeper, the player is awed by the enormous underground expanse as they descend on the elevator. Once it reaches the bottom, a catwalk leads to the next section; a massive underground freshwater reservoir storage area. Every surface will appear dampened with puddles of water, seeping through cracks. Towering pillars and high ceilings become the main focal point as the player explores further into the level. Walking past the pillars and through the tunnels, the final area of this stage is encountered. Sunlight streaming through grates and running water flows towards the exit, the end of Substrata.
Graffiti
In the massive area with pillars, a graffiti can be found. It can be spotted high up on a wall, in the middle of the room. Using the flashlight's long beam will cause The Player to collect it, where it will fall off from the wall and fade away into black particles.
Entrances
You can join this stage through the Stage Select menu if you've previously discovered it, or if you bought it through the Unlock All Stages gamepass.
Closing Day
Gather three batteries and use them to open the three shutter doors in the main room. Head to the exit door to be teleported to Substrata.
RENDER_DREAM
Parkour your way to the highest platform. Jump into The Operator and touch it to exit to Substrata.
Exits
Natura
Collect two batteries from the rooms and place them in the slots, then carefully retrieve the third one past Buzzer. After placing the third battery in the last slot, quickly run back to the elevator and press the button to descend. Wait, then follow the catwalk to the next areas. After dropping down the ladder, you may walk over the catwalk railing to get to the tunnel faster. Turn left then drop down the waterfalls, and exit to the hallway to be teleported to Natura.

Buzzer
- Main article: Buzzer
Buzzer can be found behind a gate zapping a loose power slot. Putting two batteries in the slots unlocks the big shutter gate and some small shutter doors, but Buzzer will still not move. Buzzer is completely neutral here at this point, unless you touch him yourself. Putting the third battery in frees Buzzer, allowing him to transfer to the other loose power slot and activate the elevator power. Buzzer cannot move any more after this point.
Faceless Being
- Main article: Faceless Being
If you've entered the room in Endless Office with the Faceless Being before entering this stage, you can spot him again in this stage. He can be found in the large room with pillars, running into the tunnels.

Trivia
- Substrata is based off the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel in Kasukabe, Saitama of Japan.
- Substrata was planned to have an ambience play as you went down the elevator and first got a view of the massive room at the bottom. Kord_K wasn't happy with it and it never made it into the stage. It was repurposed for SNOWED_IN as ambience played at the gas station.
- The music emanating from the exit of Substrata is an edited version of the Natura music, completely different by itself.
